Prayer for Our Schools

As we prepare to enter a new school year in our community, thank you for praying for all those who are involved in the enterprise of education. We also hope that those who home-school or who are in colleges or universities or other educational environments might find ways to adapt these prayers to those settings.

God of all wisdom, knowledge and truth, as a new school year is about to begin, we thank you for our schools and for everyone involved in the enterprise of education in this community, praying in particular…

for the students, those for whom this school is new and for those who know it well, those who are in class in person and those who are online, that they may be eager to learn all sorts of new things, that they may be unafraid to mess up or make mistakes for that is often how we learn best, that they may be healthy and safe throughout the year, and most of all that they be kind to everyone, especially to themselves…

for the parents and families, that they might do all they can to support and encourage their children’s education, that they may do their best to keep their children healthy and well-fed and well-rested every day, and that they actively partner with the school to give their children every opportunity to thrive…

for the faculty, that they may inspire in the hearts of their students a love of learning by expressing that love in their own lives, that they may find ways to connect with each of their students and joyfully commend, gently correct, and genuinely care for them throughout this school year, and for their health and safety throughout this school year…

for all the staff, the nurses, resource officers, custodians, food service employees, bus drivers, maintenance crew and others who work together to provide a clean, healthy, safe and secure environment for learning and growing…

for the administration, the principals, assistant principals, guidance counselors, and other office staff, and for the superintendent, the school board members and others that they may have the wisdom and discernment they need in the difficult decisions that they face in both the short- and long-term…

for the community, that we all may be proud of our schools, thankful for our teachers, supportive of our students and their families, committed to keeping ourselves and others as healthy and safe as possible in the midst of this pandemic, and invested in ensuring excellence in all of our educational communities…

for myself, that I may never cease to try to learn all that I can about God’s world and God’s word, and that I will share what I am learning for the good of others and the building up of my community, until the day your will is done here on earth as it is in heaven; all this we pray in the Spirit of Jesus. Amen.
